Big Lap Events ("we", "us", "our") is an Australian-based online service operating at biglapevents.com.au. We provide a curated guide of Australian events — including country shows, music festivals, 4WD events and horse racing carnivals — for travellers, grey nomads and caravanners.

We are subject to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

2 · What information we collect

Information you give us directly

• Name and email address — when you create a free account or subscribe
• Payment information — billing name and email when you purchase a subscription (card details are handled entirely by Stripe and never seen by us)
• Event organiser details — business name, contact email and event information if you claim an organiser listing
• Correspondence — any messages you send us by email or contact form

Information collected automatically

• Usage data — pages visited, filters used, time on site (collected anonymously via analytics)
• Device information — browser type, operating system, screen size (used to improve mobile experience)
• IP address — approximate location for analytics only (not stored linked to your account)
• Cookies — see Section 5 below

Information we do NOT collect

• We do not collect your full credit card number, CVV or bank details
• We do not collect your precise GPS location
• We do not collect data about children under 16
• We do not collect sensitive information (health, race, religion, etc.)

3 · Why we collect it

We collect and use your personal information only for the following purposes:

• To provide the service — creating and managing your account, delivering your event calendar, processing your subscription
• To send the monthly event digest — if you've signed up for our newsletter (you can unsubscribe at any time)
• To process payments — passing your billing email to Stripe to create and manage your subscription
• To improve the product — understanding how people use the site so we can make it better
• To respond to enquiries — replying to support requests or organiser listing enquiries
• To meet legal obligations — keeping transaction records as required by Australian law

4 · Third-party services

We use the following trusted third-party services to operate Big Lap Events. Each has their own privacy policy:

We only share the minimum information required for each service to function. We do not authorise these services to use your data for their own marketing purposes.

5 · Cookies and analytics

Our website uses the following types of cookies:

• Essential cookies — required for the site to function (e.g. keeping you logged in). You cannot opt out of these.
• Analytics cookies — used to understand how visitors use the site (e.g. which filters are most popular). These are anonymous and do not identify you personally.

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or any cookies that follow you across other websites.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time. This may affect some site functionality.

6 · How we store and protect your data

• All data is stored on servers located in Australia or the United States (via Netlify and Stripe — both compliant with Australian privacy standards)
• All data in transit is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS
• Payment data is stored by Stripe in a PCI-DSS compliant environment — we hold no card data ourselves
• Access to your personal data is restricted to authorised team members only
• We conduct regular reviews of our data practices

While we take reasonable precautions, no internet service can guarantee absolute security. In the unlikely event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

7 · Who we share data with

We share your personal information only in these circumstances:

• Service providers — Stripe and Mailchimp/ConvertKit as described above, strictly for operating the service
• Legal requirements — if required by Australian law, a court order, or to protect the rights and safety of users
• Business transfer — if Big Lap Events is sold or merged, your data may transfer to the new owner under the same privacy protections. We will notify you before this occurs.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information with any third parties for marketing or commercial purposes.

8 · How long we keep your data

• Active accounts — we keep your data for as long as your account is active
• Cancelled subscriptions — basic account data kept for 2 years for record-keeping, then deleted
• Newsletter subscribers — kept until you unsubscribe, then deleted within 30 days
• Transaction records — kept for 7 years as required by Australian tax law
• Support correspondence — kept for 2 years, then deleted

9 · Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information
• Deletion — request that we delete your personal information (subject to legal retention obligations)
• Unsubscribe — opt out of marketing emails at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email we send
• Complain — lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au if you believe your privacy rights have been breached

10 · Children's privacy

Big Lap Events is designed for adults planning travel around Australia. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@biglapevents.com.au and we will delete it promptly.

11 · Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will:

• Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
• Send an email notification to all active subscribers
• Post a notice on the Big Lap Events home page for 30 days

Continued use of the service after notification constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
